Foster Family Resources

In addition to the list of services offered to foster parents, The Salvation Army offers the following opportunities for support and networking:

Foster Family Appreciation Dinner - this is an annual event held in May to recognize our foster parents. The month of May is also recognize by the Governor of Pennsylvania as "National Foster Care Month".

Foster Family Christmas Party - A family Christmas party is sponsored by The Salvation Army Children's Services to celebrate the joy of the holiday season. The Christmas party is a wonderful occasion to mingle with other foster families, sing Christmas carols, and watch the delight of children's faces as Santa makes his appearance.

Foster Family Picnic -during the month of June the staff and foster families gather at Knoebels Grove Amusement Park in Elysburg, Pennsylvania for a wonderful old-fashioned day of family fun and a picnic.

Foster Family Fall Festival - The Salvation Army sponsors an event in the fall to enjoy the beauty of the autumn season. A fun day of hay rides, picking pumpkins and eating hotdogs is usually on the agenda.

Foster Family Newsletter - The Fostering Times is a quarterly newsletter that is put together by our foster families, staff and volunteers, to share information and great tips, success stories, and resources for our families.

Foster Family Referral Bonus - Foster Parents who refer prospective foster families to us for the purpose of becoming a foster family and are approved, receive a bonus.

Foster Parent Recruitment & Retention Committee - A team of staff, foster parents, and volunteers from the business community come together once a month to work on developing ways to improve our services to children and families.
